Where it comes from

About 14.7 million years ago an asteroid struck what is now southern Germany, leaving the crater we call the Nördlinger Ries. The impact melted the ground itself and threw it hundreds of kilometres through the air. It cooled as it flew, and it fell across Bohemia.

So moldavite is not a meteorite, and it is not a stone from space. It is Earth, transformed by something that came from space. It takes its name from the Vltava — the Moldau — the river along whose gravels it was first found. It exists in that one scatter field and nowhere else on the planet.

Who it finds

There are people who have always felt a little alienated here.

Not unhappy.
Not broken.
Simply as though they were living on alien land — sensing that something about the world around them was not quite as it should be.

Perhaps you know that feeling.

They are drawn to this stone before I have said a word about it, and what they describe afterwards is not comfort but recognition: connected to the stars, rather than stranded beneath them.

There are others who use it to reach backwards — who sit with it to open a line to their ancestors, to the ones they feel they came from. And there are the ones who take it to the heart. Not upward, not backwards. Inward.

That is what I have watched. What it does for you is between you and the stone.

Rarity — and how I know mine is real

Moldavite is finite.

It was created by a single cosmic impact event, producing a limited quantity of natural glass. No new moldavite is being formed today. The Besednice area, renowned for producing the deeply sculpted pieces most sought after by collectors, was closed to mining in 2008, and collecting in the Czech Republic is now tightly restricted.

The supply can only move in one direction: downward.

Yet demand has continued to grow. As genuine moldavite has become increasingly rare, the market has been flooded with imitations — moulded green glass and resin being among the most common.

Authentic moldavite has characteristics that reveal its natural origin. Under magnification, it can display delicate threads of lechatelierite — silica transformed by extreme heat — together with irregular gas bubbles and natural flow structures. Its refractive index and density are also distinctive, while its surface sculpting is naturally irregular. A moulded imitation may look convincing, but the patterns created by a mould are repeated rather than formed by nature.

I personally examine the material I offer, and random pieces from this collection have been tested by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). To the best of my knowledge, every stone in this collection is genuine Czech moldavite.

I sourced these stones around 2010–2011, when this collection was assembled and before the extraordinary escalation in imitation material that followed.

The collection I had was bought just before the galactic alignment of 11.11.2011. The collection was cleansed during that time. I only have a few, and I waited until we would need them most.

My work has always been about learning to recognise what is authentic beneath what is artificial — to distinguish the natural from the synthetic, the genuine from the imitation.

That discernment was formally trained through the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), where I studied Gem Identification and Colored Stone Grading in London, Bangkok and Dubai.

I was trained to examine gemstones closely, independently and without assumption — to look beyond appearance and identify what is genuinely there.

That is the same principle I bring to every piece in this collection.
